My Top 10

On the occasion of me almost getting out of the Navy, I offer my "Top 10 things I won't miss about the Navy" and my "Top 10 things I will."

Top 10 Things I Won't Miss About The Navy:
1) Ideas valued according to rank
2) Being on-call 24/7 for 4 years
3) Learning by repeatedly failing
4) Having to move all the time
5) Being so far away from my family
6) Saying goodbye to Lauren to get underway
7) Sea sickness
8) Duty days
9) Pay based on endurance instead of performance
10) Being embarrassed for the actions of military members

Top 10 Things I Will:
1) People listening to me just because I'm an officer
2) People caring where I am 24/7 for 4 years
3) Being allowed to repeatedly fail
4) Getting to move all the time
5) Learning how much my family means to me
6) Seeing my wife waiting for me on the pier
7) Sunrise over the open ocean
8) Being the one everyone looks to for answers
9) Officer pay
10) Pride from wearing the uniform

One of the things I'll most miss about the Navy is a scapegoat. I can't blame the Navy anymore, for anything. My happiness and my success will be my own choice. And really, they always have been.
