Yesterday, I was out measuring a house with another guy from the office. We needed to prepare as-built drawings before we could draft plans to convert the little house into classrooms for a local Montessori.
The school's owner let us in and then asked if we'd met before. I told her that I didn't think so, that I must have one of those faces. Now, I've never said those words before or even heard anyone not on TV say those words before, and so the instant I heard them coming out of my own mouth I already felt a little uncomfortable.
Not to be outdone with uncomfortable statements, the owner replied "I think you have a kind, warm, trusting face." Admittedly, I do. I do have a kind, warm, and trusting face. And whenever I meet new people I try to give them what I think is a Mark Wahlberg stare. I guess it worked.
I managed to say thank you while keeping my face perfectly still before I could find a mirror and practice my new kind/warm/trusting look.
